LOOKOUT 3.0 AI marine safety upgrade unveiled

LOOKOUT, the award-winning pioneer in AI marine perception, now announced LOOKOUT 3.0, a major upgrade to its industry-defining camera and object-recognition platform. Engineered for premium recreational boats, commercial fleets, and professional operators, LOOKOUT 3.0 introduces breakthrough features that materially improve safety, confidence, and decision-making on the water. System integrates real-time video LOOKOUT continuously scans the water using AI to identify and track hazards, including buoys, debris, floating logs, small craft, and marine mammals. The system integrates real-time video with charts, AIS, radar, depth data, and other NMEA-compatible sensors, displaying a crisp 3D augmented-reality view across modern MFDs from Garmin, Furuno, Raymarine, Simrad, as well as iOS and Android devices. The result: dramatically lower cognitive load, earlier detection, and faster, more accurate navigation decisions. New in LOOKOUT 3.0: A higher standard of situational awareness Aerial View — a Synthetic Bird’s-Eye Co-Pilot: LOOKOUT 3.0 introduces a first-of-its-kind 3D “Aerial View,” giving captains a dynamic overhead perspective from adjustable heights. This gives operators the practical equivalent of a drone hovering above their vessel – ideal for threading through tight harbors, navigating at night, or managing shallow, obstacle-dense waterways. Dynamic Shallow Fences — Real-Time Grounding Protection: Unlike static chartplotters, LOOKOUT now generates dynamic 3D depth fences that rise around the vessel based on its draft and safety buffer. Shallow zones become visually unmistakable, allowing captains to avoid grounding with more confidence and far less guesswork. Ambient Light & Audio Alerts — Smart, Graduated Hazard Cues: LOOKOUT’s three-tier alert system (Awareness → Caution → Evasive Action) can now trigger compatible onboard lighting and audio systems via NMEA messages – subtle yellow glows for “pay attention” and red pulses for “act now” – all designed to keep eyes forward and hands on the helm. MTM chooses Furuno for new tanker navigation systems

Furuno is delighted to announce that its subsidiary, Furuno Hellas S.A. (Greece), is taking a major leap forward with the first new building contract from Maran Tankers Management Inc. (MTM) in Greece.  MTM, the oil tanker shipping unit of Angelicoussis group led by Ms. Maria Angelicoussis, which owns more than 50 tankers, has ordered eight newbuildings of the 155,500 DWT LNG dual-fuel vessel Suezmax from New Times Shipbuilding plus three shuttle tankers from Daehan Shipbuilding and has decided to use Furuno’s navigation and communication package system. Jamming and spoofing resistance: Furuno at Jammertest

They are delighted to announce that Furuno will participate in Jammertest 2024 in Andøya, Norway from 9 to 13 September. The participants will test GNSS receivers in an environment where they will actually be exposed to jamming and spoofing signals and obtain data on their tolerance. This Jammertest is the world's largest test event where resistance to jamming and spoofing can be tested in a real environment. It is organised by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, Norwegian Communications Authority, Norwegian Defence Research Establishment, Norwegian Metrology Service, Norwegian Space Agency and Testnor. Anti-jamming capabilities Jamming has actually been detected in the Black Sea, Northern Europe, and the Middle East, and there is a growing need for enhanced resiliency in critical infrastructure such as traffic control and mobile communications. Furuno has been testing its receivers by creating signals that simulate jamming and spoofing in a lab environment, but to verify and improve their anti-jamming capabilities, it is ideal to perform a variety of evaluations in a real environment. To allow participating companies and institutions to test their GNSS receiver-equipped products in a real-world environment, the organiser will conduct various types of jamming and spoofing attacks during the event. Jamming signal frequency In this Jammertest, Furuno will test the jamming and spoofing resistance of GT-100 In this Jammertest, Furuno will test the jamming and spoofing resistance of GT-100 which is Furuno’s timing multi-GNSS receiver module that supports dual-frequency band reception in the L1 and L5 bands. GNSS receivers for time synchronisation are used in critical infrastructures that require robustness, such as 5G mobile base stations, TV broadcasting, financial institutions, and power grids.  The latest product, GT-100, can automatically mitigate the effects of jamming and spoofing signals while providing users with real-time notification of the jamming signal frequency and signal strength. Also, if it completely loses reception of the L1 band signal, it can still maintain reception of the L5 band signal and continuously output stable time. By participating in the Jammertest 2024, Furuno will evaluate and analyse the level of resistance of GT-100 to jamming and spoofing in real-world environments and use the results to further improve its robustness.
