Accelleron has signed an agreement with Hyundai Marine Solution (HMS), the aftermarket and digital division of shipbuilder, HD Hyundai Group, to enter a strategic cooperation on digital solutions. Two Accelleron solutions will cover engine and turbocharger monitoring and optimisation. Under the partnership, the companies will seek closer integration and further efficiencies across digital tools. These include HD Hyundai Marine Solution's ship management system, Integrated Smart Ship Solution ISS 2.0 and AI-based emissions monitoring solution OceanWise, and Accelleron’s engine performance optimisation solution LOREKA360° Tekomar XPERT Engine and monitoring tool Turbo Insights. Accelleron’s advanced digital analytics solution Accelleron currently delivers LOREKA360° Tekomar XPERT Engine to around 100 vessels Accelleron currently delivers LOREKA360° Tekomar XPERT Engine to around 100 vessels in HMS’s customer pool. Further licences for HHI vessels – including those already in service and those to be built – will be issued on Accelleron’s behalf by HMS, with the number expected to reach around 500 vessels in the near future. The solution assesses engine performance and delivers related advisory instantly on board the vessel. Turbo Insights is Accelleron’s advanced digital analytics solution designed to transform raw operational data into actionable intelligence from the moment a turbocharger is installed. It enables shipowners and operators to verify performance during shop tests, sea trials, and throughout the warranty period and beyond. It can support sustainability goals and cost reduction efforts, while enabling seamless integration with digital services such as LOREKA360° Tekomar XPERT Engine. AI-based vessel performance Hyundai’s ISS 2.0 is a state-of-the-art ship management system that collects real-time data from key onboard devices to provide analysis services as well as optimal navigation services. OceanWise is an AI-based vessel performance model that expands to emissions analysis and route optimisation, leveraging operational voyage data without the need for onboard hardware. Delivery of Accelleron solutions Accelleron Global Head of Sales and Operations, Digital Solutions, Shailesh Shirsekar, said: "With a customer pool comprising vessels built by one of the world’s pioneering shipbuilders, HMS is a strong partner in the delivery of Accelleron solutions. BAR Technologies, a pioneer in wind propulsion and maritime efficiency, has been awarded the 2025 GREEN4SEA-Europort Energy Transition Award in recognition of its commercially proven WindWings technology. The award was presented during the Europort 2025 Exhibition, celebrating organisations driving significant change in the maritime energy transition. BAR Technologies was selected from a shortlist of respected maritime technology providers, including Accelleron, bound4blue, Brunvoll, NatPower Marine, and Oceanly Performance. The award recognises WindWings as a commercially ready solution delivering tangible emissions reductions and performance improvements across the global fleet. Accelleron unveiled its maritime decarbonisation report at London International Shipping Week (LISW25) with a call on the shipping industry to join the global hydrogen economy by working with other sectors to pool demand for carbon-neutral fuels. In its first report on maritime decarbonisation, Accelleron’s Deadlock: What’s Stopping Shipping’s Carbon-Neutral Fuel Transition? argues that “viral” efficiency measures, such as vessel retrofits and digital solutions across the largest ships in the global fleet should be enough to reach the IMO’s carbon reduction targets for 2030. Data modelling and extensive insights Accelleron’s report, using comparative data modelling and extensive insights from dozens of senior executives But for deeper decarbonisation leading to net zero, shipping will need to switch to green hydrogen-based fuels, which are now scarce and prohibitively expensive. Their production is virtually non-existent, despite the fact that the technology to power ships with carbon-neutral fuels exists, and moreover, has been backed by major shipowners who have ordered hundreds of new vessels. Why has the shipping industry reached this impasse? And how to resolve it? Accelleron’s report, using comparative data modelling and extensive insights from dozens of senior executives across the industry, finds that shipping alone cannot solve this problem. Risk for mega hydrogen projects To kickstart ample production of affordable carbon-neutral fuels, shipping needs to aggregate demand with other hard-to-abate sectors such as the steel, fertiliser, and power-generation industries. Rather than competing for carbon-neutral fuels, as many narratives assume, these industries could join forces to transform competition into a critical mass of demand, lowering the risk for mega hydrogen projects and allowing them to attract sufficient financing. This means the fate of shipping is tied to the broader, cross-sector energy transition. It means shipping should view maritime decarbonisation through the lens of the fledgling global hydrogen economy. New paradigm of partnership "It is clear from our research and analysis, and from the contributions of the many stakeholders who were good enough to share their expertise and insights for this report, that reaching net zero is not only about fuels or systems, but about forging a new paradigm of partnership," said Daniel Bischofberger, Chief Executive Officer at Accelleron, wrote in his foreword for the report. He adds, "Fortunately, partnership has always been one of shipping’s great virtues. For thousands of years, shipping has connected cultures, carried science and progress across oceans, and overcome impossible odds through pragmatism, determination, and solidarity." Daniel Bischofberger continues, "As an industry, we have already proven, in a relatively short time, that we can prepare our global fleet for a decarbonised world. Now, it is time to partner with other sectors to secure the fuels we all need to carry us, finally, to that net-zero shore." Accelleron’s report The report finds: Technical and operational efficiency measures could cut emissions by over 30% by 2030, exceeding the IMO target. By 2050, shipping alone will need 100–150 million tons of green hydrogen each year Shipping, aviation, steel, cement, power, and agriculture account for about 70% of global emissions and would need a total of around 500 million tons of green hydrogen and $9 trillion in cumulative investment to produce it. Only about 38 million tons of green hydrogen production are currently in the pipeline, supported by less than $320 billion in committed investment. Backbone of global energy and trade Accelleron hopes that its contribution to the decarbonisation debate in the form of this report will help galvanise action. As the backbone of global energy and trade, shipping can become a driver of the global energy transition, rather than a passenger. Accelleron presented its report, which is attached, at the London International Shipping Week on Sept 16th, followed by a lively stakeholder dialogue with shipping and energy pioneers.
