BAR Technologies has been honoured with the 2025 GREEN4SEA-Europort Energy Transition Award, acknowledging its innovative WindWings technology. Awarded during the Europort 2025 Exhibition, the accolade celebrates entities making notable impacts in advancing maritime energy transition.
The selection of BAR Technologies for this prestigious award highlights the effectiveness of its WindWings as a practical solution capable of delivering measurable reductions in emissions and enhancing performance for ship owners globally.
Other nominees included prominent maritime technology providers, such as Accelleron, bound4blue, Brunvoll, NatPower Marine, and Oceanly Performance.

WindWings, the centrepiece of BAR Technologies' offerings, is a wind-assisted propulsion system (WAPS) designed to cut down fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
Utilising an advanced aero-design, each WindWing showcases the firm's patented three-element wing system, which generates 2.5 times more lift than conventional single-element wings, without the constant need for external power like Flettner rotors or suction fans employed in turbo sails.
Delivering significant environmental benefits, WindWings achieves average fuel savings of 1.5 tonnes per wing each day, making it a robust and scalable option for decarbonising the maritime shipping sector.
Practical and impactful technology
Speaking on behalf of BAR Technologies, Sales Director, Tom James, remarked: "This award validates WindWings as a practical and impactful technology. It’s not just an innovation, it’s operational."
He further emphasised the importance of wind propulsion in achieving current emissions reductions, "We’ve shown that wind propulsion can deliver measurable decarbonisation today, not just in future projections."
After receiving the award, James participated in a panel discussion with fellow awardees, stressing the importance of regulation, partnership, and data openness to promote large-scale environmental advancement.
