The UK-based Peel Ports Group has taken a significant step in its environmental efforts by becoming the first UK port operator to join the Construction Leadership Council's Co2nstructZero initiative.
This involvement underscores the Group’s commitment to supporting the construction industry in reducing carbon emissions. Co2nstructZero is an important element in the sector’s answer to the Government's Green Industrial Revolution 10-point plan, launched in 2020.
Collaborative Efforts for Decarbonisation
The Co2nstructZero framework combines the expertise of leading companies to make strides toward the 2050 decarbonisation target.
Peel Ports Group plans to assist in reducing emissions by streamlining supply chain processes to be more sustainable, such as importing materials closer to their final destinations. This participation highlights a continued dedication to collaborative, practical solutions geared towards cutting the carbon footprint of major construction projects.
Sustainable Construction Partner Programme

In addition to its involvement in Co2nstructZero, Peel Ports Group has introduced the Sustainable Construction Partner programme.
This initiative aims to connect materials and logistics suppliers directly with end users, fostering greener and more efficient supply chains. The programme's founding partners, including companies like Ecocem, Hercules, Bretts, Holcim, Mibau Stema, and other Peel Ports Group customers, are already benefiting from this sustainable approach.
Development of Construction Hubs
Plans are underway to establish dedicated construction consolidation hubs at all Peel Ports Group locations across the UK.
The success of pilot hubs at the Port of London Medway and Port of East Anglia in Great Yarmouth supports this expansion. These hubs are set to aid major infrastructure projects such as Sizewell C, the Lower Thames Crossing, and the Heathrow Airport expansion.

David Huck, Chief Operations Officer at Peel Ports Group, commented on the initiative, stating, "As decarbonisation deadlines approach, the demand for greener construction propositions is rising fast. The construction industry has made good progress in reducing building emissions, but there remains a big opportunity to cut carbon earlier through smarter sourcing and logistics."
Huck further explained, "Our ports play a key role in the construction supply chain, so it’s fantastic that the CLC have welcomed us onto the Co2nstructZero framework. We’re leading the way with greener logistics management by rethinking how materials enter and move around the UK. We’re confident this approach will lower costs and emissions, while delivering these hugely needed infrastructure projects."
