Peel Ports Group has underlined its commitment to supporting UK steel and metals supply chains by becoming the first and only UK port operator to join the Aluminium Federation (ALFED).
The UK’s second-largest port operator has signed up to the trade body as it aims to grow its presence in the aluminium sector, following a record-breaking year for steel imports at the Port of Liverpool.

Joining ALFED – a non-profit organisation dedicated to representing and supporting the UK aluminium industry - marks a significant step in the group’s efforts to support UK aluminium importers with more efficient, sustainable supply chain solutions.
The business is already working with customers to bring aluminium cargoes closer to major centres of demand across its seven statutory harbour authority ports and 24 terminals. This aims to reduce road miles and cut carbon emissions by making greater use of coastal and short sea shipping.
ALFED's unlock new opportunities

Further interest from metals importers
In April, the company reported a record-breaking year for steel imports at the Port of Liverpool, with volumes increasing by more than 35% year-on-year.
That success is driving further interest from metals importers and cargo owners wanting port solutions that deliver value, resilience and improved connectivity to end markets.
