Kongsberg Maritime has secured a contract to enhance the waterjet propulsion systems on 13 Kuwait Coast Guard vessels. This project, in collaboration with the EDGE Group's Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB), is set to bolster their joint efforts in the naval sector within the region.
The contract involves installing Kongsberg Kamewa waterjets to replace outdated third-party systems on ten vessels, while retrofitting three others.
Operational performance and reliability
As part of the agreement, 13 shipsets of S63-4 waterjets, Jet Control Systems (Extended), and power units will be supplied, with installations slated from the first quarter of 2026 through to the first quarter of 2027.
These upgrades aim to significantly improve the operational performance and reliability of the Kuwait Coast Guard's fleet, currently receiving mid-life updates at ADSB's facilities.

The decision to proceed with fully replacing the systems, rather than refurbishing them, marks a strategic shift by the Kuwait Coast Guard, emphasising the advantages of Kongsberg Maritime’s modern waterjet systems.
This initiative is poised to open new avenues for Kongsberg Maritime in the GCC defence market, especially as ADSB continues to expand its naval newbuild projects and strategic alliances.
