Kongsberg Maritime has expanded its UUC PM (Underwater Mountable, Permanent Magnet) azimuth thruster range, introducing two new sizes that enhance its high-efficiency propulsion solutions for challenging offshore and marine operations.
The new models, additions to the UUC PM 405, feature propeller diameters of 3.8 metres and 4.1 metres, providing thrust capacities of 86 and 91 metric tons, respectively.
Evolving offshore energy sectors
The company plans to further extend the UUC PM range, targeting future models with up to 5.5-metre diameters and power ratings of 6000 kW. This strategic expansion is designed to meet the demands of larger vessels and more complex applications within the evolving offshore energy landscape.
“The introduction of these new sizes reflects our focus on meeting customer needs for flexibility and power in offshore operations,” stated Pasi Villanen, Product Manager, Thrusters at Kongsberg Maritime. “Permanent magnet technology allows us to deliver higher thrust in a smaller footprint, which is critical for vessels operating in challenging environments.”
Efficient maintenance and turnkey solutions
Kongsberg Maritime ensures time-efficient lifecycle care, thus maximising operational time for operators
The UUC PM thruster range offers easy underwater mounting and removal, a feature that reduces vessel downtime and lowers maintenance costs significantly.
With a track record of delivering swift turnkey thruster change-outs to major drilling clients, Kongsberg Maritime ensures time-efficient lifecycle maintenance, thus maximising operational time for operators.
Dynamic positioning in demanding conditions
Customers benefit from Kongsberg Maritime’s extensive experience, as well as from storing spare units in key global locations and entrusting full maintenance project management to the company. This comprehensive support minimises planned maintenance interruptions, ensuring quick return to operation with reliable performance.
Incorporating built-in sensors for real-time condition monitoring, the thrusters integrate underwater mounting capabilities and advanced permanent magnet motor technology. These features make them an optimal choice for offshore support vessels, drilling rigs, and other applications requiring dynamic positioning in demanding conditions.
