The International Association of Dry Cargo Shipowners (INTERCARGO) is celebrating its 45th anniversary in 2025, alongside a surge in membership, an increased global presence, and an emphasis on future priorities within the dry bulk shipping industry. Currently, INTERCARGO comprises over 350 members from more than 35 countries, including around 180 Full Members.
Together, these members operate over 4,400 bulk carriers, with a combined deadweight tonnage (DWT) nearing 420 million. This accounts for approximately 40% of the global dry bulk carrier fleet by DWT, underscoring the Association's significant influence in the sector.

The diversity in membership reflects a collective dedication to ensuring standards of quality, safety, and environmental performance. As a Non-Governmental Organisation recognised by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and a participant in the Round Table of International Shipping Associations, INTERCARGO contributes substantially to shaping global regulations and enhancing quality protocols across the dry bulk shipping sector.
Its advocacy efforts are primarily concentrated on safety, sustainability, and acknowledging the vital services offered by dry bulk shipping globally.
45th Annual General Meeting
On 3-4 November 2025, INTERCARGO members will gather in Athens, Greece, for the Association's 45th Annual General Meeting (AGM), along with semi-annual committee meetings. During these sessions, members will evaluate the Association's accomplishments and set priorities for the upcoming year.
John A Xylas, Chairman of INTERCARGO, stated, "INTERCARGO’s strong growth and 45-year legacy reflect the trust of our members and the importance of a united voice for dry bulk shipping. INTERCARGO is strongly positioned to continue supporting our members and the wider industry through the challenges ahead."
