Intellian has introduced the Inmarsat Fleet One and FleetBroadband 250 (FB250) terminals at the recent Inmarsat EMEA conference held in Barcelona, Spain on December 3.
Renowned for their advanced capabilities, these maritime communication terminals operate on the Inmarsat Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN), a key GEO L-band network offering dependable connectivity both on land and at sea.
High-Performance Communication Terminals
The Fleet One and FB250 terminals stand out for their versatile performance, functioning effectively as independent systems. The FleetBroadband 250, in particular, can be seamlessly integrated with Intellian Global Xpress antennas, offering a comprehensive communication solution.
These terminals deliver high-quality digital voice and SMS services and are compatible with Global System for Mobile (GSM) networks. With built-in Wi-Fi access points and Power over Ethernet (PoE) equipped ports, smart devices can easily connect, eliminating the need for additional adaptors for VoIP telephony.
Comprehensive Maritime Safety Solutions
Intellian's Fleet One and FB250 terminals can be incorporated into a full-fledged safety system, providing essential services like the Global Maritime Distress and Safety Service (GMDSS) within a Maritime Safety Terminal (MST).
They support key features such as navigation, location-based services, and a dedicated emergency calling service, the Inmarsat 505, which offers a voice distress safety service for smaller vessels. Weighing under 10 kg, the Fleet One terminal ensures a straightforward and cost-effective installation with its single cable setup between the above and below deck units.
Intellian FB250 and Fleet Xpress Compatibility
The FB250, designed at Intellian's innovation centre in South Korea, complements the Intellian NX Series terminals for full utilisation of Inmarsat Fleet Xpress services.
This integrated package, featuring a Rack Mount system, gives maritime operators a single-supplier solution, compatible with 3G and LTE networks, enhancing communication efficiency on both ships and offshore platforms.
Future Availability and Type Approval
Eric Sung, CEO of Intellian, highlighted the ongoing significance of global L-band services in facilitating clear communication on both leisure and commercial vessels, as well as serving as a reliable backup for primary VSAT systems. The Intellian Fleet One and FB250 are anticipated to receive Inmarsat type approval, aiming for commercial availability by early 2020. To cater to aesthetic preferences, particularly among yacht and superyacht owners, Intellian also offers ‘matching radome’ options for a cohesive look, aligning their communication terminals with TVRO systems.

Intellian Fleet One and FB250 can be integrated as part of a complete safety solution, encompassing mandatory services such as GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety Service), within an MST (Maritime Safety Terminal) to provide safety functionality and additional features, including navigation and location-based services.
Weighing less than 10 Kg and using a single cable between the ADU (above deck unit) and BDU (below deck unit), Intellian Fleet One is designed for simple, low-cost delivery and installation.
In addition to easy integration with an MST, the terminal also offers all the necessary features related to safety at sea, including Inmarsat 505 Emergency calling, the free voice distress safety service for small vessels.

Inmarsat type approval awaits
Intellian Fleet One and FB250 are expected to obtain Inmarsat type approval and be commercially available early in 2020.
