ABS has granted an Approval in Principle (AIP) to Hanwha Ocean Co. Ltd. for the development of remote control capabilities for floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) units.
The certification by ABS comes after comprehensive design evaluations aligned with the organisation's criteria for autonomous and remote-control functionalities.

The agreement highlights the combined strengths of each organisation under three main themes: sustainability, digitalisation and artificial intelligence, and operational technology cyber security.
"Remote-control technologies are unlocking new levels of operational intelligence for offshore assets by enabling continuous data acquisition, advanced analytics, and predictive insights. These capabilities can not only improve health, safety, and quality compliance but also optimise asset performance through real-time decision-making and automated control," stated Patrick Ryan, ABS Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer.
