This partnership includes business co-development and project opportunities, with plans to execute a pilot installation that will pave the way for future collaborations.

Rooted in a mutual commitment, this collaboration seeks to push forward ammonia fuel systems for dual-fuel vessels.
Alfa Laval is set to bring its well-established expertise in ammonia fuel supply systems and related technologies, while Hanwha will contribute its substantial experience in system engineering and integration. This cooperative effort aims to foster the exchange of expertise, improving productivity and safety on vessels.

The alliance with Hanwha Ocean Ecotech signifies a robust commitment to powering shipping with ammonia through proven technologies, engineering expertise, and closely-knit industry partnerships. The agreement was concluded at Alfa Laval’s booth during Kormarine 2025.
Alfa Laval is also engaged in various significant partnerships focusing on ammonia as a marine fuel. Noteworthy is its longstanding R&D collaboration with WinGD, which has successfully tested the FCM Ammonia, Ammonia Release Mitigation System (ARMS), and Fuel Valve Trains, setting a solid base for commercial implementation.
Another cooperative effort involves South Korea's shipbuilder, K Shipbuilding (KSB), Alfa Laval, WinGD, and the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) in designing a comprehensive fuel system, including the ammonia fuel supply system and an Aalborg ammonia dual-fuel boiler system, showcasing Alfa Laval's dedication to propelling safe ammonia adoption through both individual innovations and collaborative ventures.

Innovation through collaboration
The partnership with Hanwha Ocean Ecotech represents a strong commitment to enabling ammonia powered shipping through proven technologies, engineering, and close industry collaboration. The signing took place at Alfa Laval’s booth during Kormarine 2025.
Alfa Laval is actively engaged in several other key collaborations focused on ammonia as a marine fuel. A key example is our long-standing research and development partnership with WinGD, which has successfully tested the FCM Ammonia, Ammonia Release Mitigation System (ARMS) and Fuel Valve Trains, laying a solid foundation for its commercial rollout.
Another collaboration between South Korea’s shipbuilder K Shipbuilding (KSB), Alfa Laval, WinGD, and the classification society American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), saw Alfa Laval contribute to the design of the entire fuel system, including the ammonia fuel supply system, fuel valves train, and ARMS with Alfa Laval also adding an Aalborg ammonia dual-fuel boiler system to the project scope.
